Spending feels like a choice. Being broke later feels like a consequence. They’re the same event.
RESILIENCE
Spending feels like a choice. Being broke later feels like a consequence. They’re the same event.
RESILIENCE
Those two things are separated only by time, which is why they feel like different categories. At the counter you experience agency and pleasure, and three weeks later you experience a kind of weather you did not cause, as though the empty account arrived on its own. There is one event with a delay in it.
For a fortnight, say out loud what each purchase is costing you later rather than what it costs now. The coffee is a third of a tank. If you can hold both halves in your head at once, most of the problem solves itself.
Where did the money go that you now wish you had?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
