Boredom makes bad ideas look exciting.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Boredom is not neutral, it actively lowers your standards. With nothing going on, the brain hunts for stimulation and takes whatever is nearby, which is how a plan you would normally laugh at becomes the obvious thing to do at nine on a Tuesday. The idea has not improved, your tolerance for risk has gone up.
Keep two or three dull, available things you actually like: a walk, a game, something to make, somebody to call. Reach for one when you notice the restlessness, before the suggestions start. If a plan only sounds good because you are bored, that is usually the whole reason it sounds good.
What do you reach for when an evening has nothing in it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
