If your friends need you to be worse to fit in, the fit is the problem.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Some groups bond over a shared low standard, and belonging there has a price: you keep agreeing to be a smaller version of yourself. The pressure rarely looks like pressure. It shows up as teasing when you study, or a silence when you say you are not drinking, and the message is that the room stays warm while you stay down.
Notice who you are when you walk out of each group you spend time in. Give more of your hours to the ones you like yourself around, even if that is one person. You do not have to announce anything; you just have to be busy more often.
Who do you shrink parts of yourself around to stay included?
