A job you say yes to in a panic is a job you’ll be job-hunting from in six months.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Panic is a poor negotiator. When you need income this month, every question you would normally ask about hours, travel and the manager gets skipped, because the only thing being solved is the next pay cycle. Six months on, nothing about the job has changed and you are applying again from inside it, which is harder than applying from outside.

Where you are already in one, take the money and keep looking. When you have a week to decide, use it: ask about the schedule, and talk to somebody who works there. A small cushion of savings is what buys you the right to ask questions.
