The people nearest you are the easiest to be short with, because they are there, they are not going anywhere, and there is no professional price for it. That same closeness is why it lands harder and stays longer. A bad tone at school is forgotten by Friday, while at home it accumulates into what somebody comes to expect from you, and repair runs slower than damage.

When you come in loaded, say so at the door instead of demonstrating it: bad day, ten minutes, nothing to do with you. Then come back and finish the conversation you cut off. Naming it is shorter than the argument it prevents.
