Correcting someone’s grammar mid-argument is how you win the sentence and lose the point.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Reaching for the error in how something was said is a way of stepping out of a disagreement you are not enjoying. It scores immediately and costs you everything, because the other person now knows the content was not what you were engaging with. It also tells them this is a status contest rather than an attempt to understand each other. The sentence was never the thing in dispute.

Answer the idea instead of the wording. If it genuinely blocked the meaning, ask what they meant. Save corrections for writing somebody asked you to read.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When did you attack how something was said instead of what?
