“Let’s take a break and talk tomorrow” isn’t running away, as long as you actually come back tomorrow.

There comes a point in a hard conversation where neither person is learning anything, and pushing past it only adds new injuries to the original problem. Stopping on purpose is a different act from walking out, and the whole difference sits in whether you come back. The promise is what makes the pause safe; without it, somebody is left holding an unfinished thing with no end date.
Name a specific time to pick it up and be the one who starts it. Use the gap to cool down rather than to build your case. Returning on time is the whole of your credibility here.
Did you come back to the conversation you paused?
