An apology that shows up three years late can still matter. Late isn’t never.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Repair has no deadline, because the thing being repaired is still there. Hearing somebody name what they did, even long afterwards, settles a question the other person has been carrying alone: whether it happened the way they remember, and whether it registered. A late apology cannot undo anything, and that was never what it was for. It can change what somebody believes about their own memory.

If one is owed, say it plainly and without asking for anything back, forgiveness included. Name the specific thing rather than apologising in general. And if one arrives from somebody else, you are allowed to take your time with it.
