Typing “haha” when you’re actually hurt is how small things turn into big things later.

Typing a laugh you do not feel buys quiet now and charges interest later. The other person concludes the thing was fine and does it again, and each round widens the gap between what you are showing and what you are carrying. By the time it comes out it arrives as a list, which is far harder to hear than one sentence would have been.
Say the small thing the first time it happens, in the plainest words you have. Telling somebody that one actually stung is a complete message and does not require a confrontation. Most people adjust straight away, and the whole thing stays small.
What did you laugh off that is still sitting inside you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
