Your dad’s angry voice when you got home late was often a scared voice. Same volume, different engine.

Volume can hide what is underneath it. A parent waiting up with no idea where you are spends an hour imagining the worst, and when the door finally opens the fear has nowhere to go but out at the same pitch. It still landed on you as anger, and the engine was not the one it sounded like.
If this is familiar, you might ask your dad sometime what he was thinking about while he waited. You do not owe him that conversation, and it is sometimes worth having anyway. Later on, when somebody comes home late to you, you will know what the shouting is made of.
Whose shouting at home was fear you only recognized later?
