Saying sorry for taking up space makes your real apologies harder to believe.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
An apology is a signal, and a signal used constantly stops carrying information. If sorry comes out when you walk past someone, ask a question or exist near a doorway, then the word has become a verbal tic and the people around you stop hearing it. When something actually needs apologising for, you have spent the currency.
Count the ones that slip out tomorrow and swap them for something accurate: thank you for waiting, or excuse me, or nothing at all. Save the real word for when you did something. You will find it lands much harder when it is rare.
How often do you apologize for simply being in the room?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
