Fairness is not giving everyone what they want; it is refusing to rig whose wants matter.

LEADERSHIP
Fairness cannot mean satisfying everyone, since wants conflict and resources are finite. What it can mean is that no one’s interests get automatically counted more because of who they are, how loud they are, or how close they sit to whoever is deciding. The integrity is in the weighing, not the outcome.
When making a decision that affects several people, check whose preferences you assumed and whose you looked up. That difference is usually where the rigging happens.
Whose preferences count automatically in the rooms you sit in?
