Remixing counts. A lot of the genres you love started as somebody mashing two others together.
CREATIVITY
CREATIVITY
Originality from nothing is mostly a myth about how music happens. New sounds usually come from collision, where somebody puts one thing over another because they liked both and had no respect for the rules keeping them apart. The combination is the creative act, even though every ingredient was already lying around. Borrowing openly is a different thing from copying quietly.
Take two things you love that have nothing to do with each other and put them in the same track, drawing or dish. Leave the join rough on the first attempt. Credit what you took from, because that is what separates a remix from a theft.
