The idea is the easy part. Version forty-seven is where it becomes yours.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Ideas are cheap and widely available, and several other people had yours this month. What nobody else has is the specific set of decisions you make across the long middle, where you discard what does not work and keep finding slightly better answers. That accumulation is what makes a thing recognisably one person’s. Taste shows up in revision rather than in inspiration.

Stop collecting new ideas for a while and take one through many more passes than feels reasonable. Save each version so you can see what changed. If you are bored of it, that is usually the point where other people have not noticed it yet.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which idea of yours has never made it past version one?
