Your journal doesn’t need to be deep. Writing “today was weird” is still writing.

The expectation that a journal should contain insight is what keeps most journals empty. Three words count. The point of the habit is not profundity, it is keeping a line open between what happens to you and the act of putting it in language, and that line only stays open through use. Depth tends to arrive later, in entries you did not plan.
Write one sentence tonight before you sleep, however flat. Do it again tomorrow, and allow yourself to write the same sentence twice. After a couple of weeks, read the whole thing back, which is usually when you find out what you have been thinking about.
What stops you from writing a page nobody would call deep?
