If your art makes you nervous to show your family, ask why. Sometimes that’s growth, sometimes it’s a sign.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Nervousness can mean two different things, and they are worth separating. Sometimes it means the work has moved past what the people who raised you expect, which is ordinary growth and nothing to apologise for. Sometimes it means part of you knows the piece is careless with somebody, or that showing it would cost more than you want to pay. The feeling is identical, and the reason is not.

Sit with it long enough to name which one it is, maybe in writing. If it is growth, show one person outside the family first.
