A tiny budget can become a style. Plenty of iconic looks started as “this is all we could afford.”

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Necessity and taste look identical from the outside. Grainy film, visible seams, one lamp in a dark room: plenty of looks people now copy on purpose began as the only option somebody had. Audiences read consistency as intention, so a limit applied everywhere stops reading as a limit at all. The trick is committing to it rather than apologising for it.

Take whatever your constraint is and apply it deliberately across the whole project instead of hiding it in places. Make it look chosen, because by then it is. Give the look a name so you remember to keep it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Could your lack of money become your look instead?
