Most ballet classes start at the barre with pliés. Even principal dancers bend their knees first.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Nobody outgrows the basics; they just do them with more understanding. A principal dancer bends their knees at the start of class for the same reason a beginner does, because the fundamental thing is where the technique actually lives. Treating basics as a stage you graduate from is how skills quietly rot. The best people in any craft return to the simplest movement most often.

Add one plain, unglamorous warm-up to your own practice this week and refuse to skip it. Scales, free throws, basic strokes, the first five minutes of the easy thing. Do it especially on the days you feel too advanced for it.
