Fatigue makes everyone sloppy. When you’re running low, slow down on the parts that could hurt someone.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Tiredness does not announce itself as poor judgement; it just makes you slightly less accurate at everything while your confidence stays where it was. That mismatch is why accidents cluster at the end of shifts. You cannot always choose to be rested, but you can choose which tasks get the careful version of you. Knowing which parts carry real consequences is most of the job.

Work out in advance which parts of your work could hurt somebody if you got them wrong. When you are tired, do those slowly, and out loud if that helps. Leave the fast version for the parts where a mistake only costs time.
