Cut fabric along the grain, not against it. Some things get easier once you understand how they’re built.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Woven cloth behaves differently in different directions, stretching one way and holding firm the other, and a cut that ignores this makes a garment that twists however well it is sewn. Understanding the structure makes the work easier rather than more complicated. Plenty of things are like that: a subject, a machine, somebody’s temperament. Learning how something is built makes your effort go further.

Before fighting something this week, spend twenty minutes learning how it actually works. Read the manual, ask somebody who knows, look at how it is put together. Then try again using the structure instead of your strength.
