Violin calluses hurt while they’re forming. After that, they’re the reason it stops hurting.

RESILIENCE
The pain of building a callus is the pain of the thing that will later make the pain stop. Your fingers are being rebuilt for the work, and the discomfort is the adaptation happening rather than a warning to quit, which is confusing because most pain is a warning. Knowing the difference between forming and injuring is genuinely useful. Early soreness in a physical skill tends to be this kind.
Keep sessions short and frequent while your hands are toughening, rather than long and rare. Stop for sharp pain, not for soreness. Give it three weeks and notice when you stop thinking about your fingertips at all.
