If the new barista keeps messing up the same drink, check who trained them before you blame them.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Repeated mistakes usually point upstream. When somebody keeps getting the same thing wrong, the likeliest reason is that nobody showed them properly, and blaming them leaves the real cause sitting there for the next new person. Training gaps are invisible because they look exactly like individual failings. Checking the source is both fairer and more useful.

When you notice irritation at somebody’s repeated error, ask what they were actually taught. Then show them once, slowly, the whole way through. If you were the one trained badly, say so, and spare whoever comes after you.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When someone keeps failing, do you look at their training?
