Being coachable doesn’t mean agreeing with everything. It means trying it before you argue.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being coachable is not obedience. It is a willingness to run the experiment before you file your objection, because most advice cannot be judged from outside and your body or your work has to try it to know. Arguing first protects your current way of doing things, which is the very thing you came to improve. Trying first costs you one attempt.

Next time a coach, teacher or manager tells you to change something, do it their way three times without commentary. Then say what you noticed, specifically. You will be taken far more seriously for having actually tried it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What advice did you argue with before you ever tried it?
