Being average at something for a year is a normal part of becoming good at it.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Every skill has a long middle stretch where you are plainly ordinary at it, and that stretch is not a sign you chose wrong. It is simply what the inside of learning looks like once the beginner’s quick progress has run out. Most people quit here, which is why the ones who stay look rare and gifted. They are mostly just still present.

Name something you are currently average at and decide to stay average at it a while longer on purpose. Keep the sessions in your week whether or not you can see change. Measure in months, against your own earlier self.
