Watching tutorials about a skill feels like learning. Doing it badly with your own hands is learning.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Watching an expert gives you the comfortable feeling of understanding without any of the difficulty of doing. Your hands learn nothing from your eyes, which is why the first real attempt is so humbling and so much more valuable than the tenth video. The awkward version with your own hands is where the skill actually goes in. Clarity while watching is not ability.

Cap the watching this week at one video, then do the thing badly for twenty minutes. Keep whatever you produce, however poor, as a record of the start. Go back to the tutorial only with a specific question you now have.
