Water troughs freeze in winter and someone still has to break the ice. Not every job is heroic. It’s just necessary.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Necessary work often has no story attached to it. Breaking ice at dawn so animals can drink is nobody’s idea of an achievement, and it still has to happen, every cold morning, or something living suffers for it. Needing to be done is a sufficient reason on its own. Waiting for work to feel meaningful before you do it is a way of leaving it undone.

Take the plain, unimpressive task on your list and do it without looking for a reason to be proud. Notice that it was required and you were the one available. Let that be enough.
