Praying for the person you’re jealous of is like medicine for envy. It tastes awful and works.

GRATITUDE
Envy survives on distance. As long as the person you resent stays an idea, a highlight reel, a name attached to the thing you wanted, the feeling has room to grow. Asking for good things on their behalf collapses that distance, which is precisely why it is so unpleasant to do. It works by making them a person again, and nobody enjoys the moment that happens.
Name them specifically this week, not as a category, and ask for something good for them by name. It will feel false at first. Do it for a week anyway and see what has moved.
