The janitor often sees things about a school the principal never does. Humble work sees things proud work misses.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Position determines what you can see, and often the lower position sees more. The person cleaning the building moves through every room, at every hour, when nobody is performing for them, and learns things no office ever hears. Being overlooked is a form of access. Proud work makes everybody careful around it, which means it only ever gets shown the version people want it to see.

Ask somebody in an unglamorous job what they notice this week. A cleaner, a driver, a caretaker. Then listen for longer than is comfortable.
