A king burned Jeremiah’s scroll piece by piece. Baruch sat down and wrote it all again. Start over if you have to.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

The work got destroyed on purpose and somebody sat down and did it all again. That is the part worth holding on to: not the outrage at the burning but the quiet, unglamorous business of starting the whole thing from the beginning. Having to repeat work you already did is demoralising in a particular way. It is also often the only route from here to anywhere.

If something you made has been lost, broken or dismissed, begin it again this week rather than mourning it for another month. Same thing, from the top, with what you remember.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What work of yours was destroyed, and would you rebuild it?
