A widow was gathering sticks for her last meal when Elijah asked her to share it first. Her jar of flour didn’t run out.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being asked to give when you have least is a different request from being asked when you have plenty. In the story she had enough for one meal and was asked to make it two. Whatever you make of how it ended, the hard part is the decision taken before any of that was known. Generosity under scarcity is the only kind that costs anything.

You are not obliged to give away what you need. But look at the week ahead and find one small thing you could share before it feels comfortable: half a lunch, a ride, an hour. Notice that it was possible.
