Kids who translate doctor visits and phone calls for their parents grow up fast. If that’s you, your family sees it.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Standing between your family and an institution is adult work handed to a teenager. Holding medical words and official tone in one language while speaking care in another is a real job, and it means you learned early how to stay calm in rooms not built for your family. The people you do it for notice more than they say.

If this is you, it is worth letting somebody outside the family know, a teacher or a counselor, because carrying it alone is heavier than it needs to be. You are also allowed to say when a particular call is too much.
