Somebody saving you a seat is a small thing that says a big thing: I expected you, and I wanted you here.

A saved seat is evidence about how somebody thinks of you when you are not in the room. They pictured you arriving, then spent a little awkwardness keeping a spot from someone else. Most of belonging is made of gestures that size, which is why it is hard to point at and easy to doubt. The gesture is the message, not the furniture.
Watch this week for who does that sort of thing for you, and say you noticed. Then do it yourself for somebody who tends to arrive last and alone, before they have to ask.
