The house you grew up in probably won’t stay in the family forever. Walk through it slower this year.

Houses move on. The place that holds your childhood belongs to a family at a particular moment, and families change size, change town and change circumstances, and eventually somebody else is cooking in that kitchen. Knowing that in advance is not morbid; it simply moves your attention forward to while you are still in it. The rooms get more interesting once you remember they are borrowed.
Walk through it slowly sometime this year. Go into rooms you never use, look at the marks on the door frames, take a few plain photographs of ordinary corners. Later those will beat anything posed.
Where in your house would you walk more slowly today?
