Ending things over text when you could’ve said it in person is choosing your comfort over their dignity.

A hard conversation has a cost, and somebody has to carry it. Doing it by message moves the whole weight onto the other person, who then reacts alone, with nothing to ask and nobody there, while you are spared watching it land. That trade is understandable, and it is still a trade made at their expense.
If something needs ending, say it to their face where you can, briefly and kindly, and let them answer. Pick a time and place that lets them leave on their own terms. It is the harder ten minutes and the one you will respect yourself for.
