Being unobserved is not the same as being unaccountable. A machine removes the witness, not the act, and the person who lives with the act is standing right there holding the bag. What you do when nothing is watching is the clearest reading you will ever get of who you are.

Treat the places with no witness as the real test this week: the unsupervised classroom, the honor-system cash box, the machine that trusts you. Scan everything, including whatever is at the bottom of the cart. The habit you build there is the one that shows up when more is at stake.
