Never hand the new hire a task you’d be embarrassed to put your own initials on.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Seniority creates a temptation to use the newest person as somewhere to put the jobs you have decided are beneath you. They cannot refuse, they do not know what is normal, and they will assume whatever you hand them is the standard here. The real transfer is not the task but the message about what gets done properly and what gets dumped.

Before you pass something down, ask whether you would want your name next to the finished version. If not, do it with them once rather than handing it over. Showing someone how the awkward job gets done well is most of mentoring.
