Anyone can do the fun part well. Character is how you fold the last pile of shirts.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Beginnings are easy to do well because the energy is free. The last twenty minutes, once the interesting part is over and nobody would notice a sloppier job, is where the real standard shows, and it is the stretch most people quietly abandon. Anyone can be good while it is still fun. Finishing is a separate skill.

Take one task this week all the way to the end at the quality you started with, including the dull tail. Notice the exact moment you want to stop caring, and keep going for ten more minutes. That ten minutes is most of what separates reliable people from everybody else.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which part of a chore do you quietly leave undone?
