A person known for exaggeration eventually makes truth sound suspicious.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Habitual exaggeration has a cost that arrives late. Everything you say begins to get discounted automatically, including the accurate things, and when something genuinely serious happens you find that the discount is still being applied. The person has not lost the ability to be believed once; they have lost the default. Undoing it takes a long time.

Notice where you inflate, the story that gets slightly better each telling, the number rounded upward. Try telling one this week exactly as it happened. Plain accounts land harder than embellished ones once people know you do not embellish.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which of your stories has grown a little with each telling?
