Knowing the history of your neighborhood changes how you walk through it.

Streets look like fixed scenery until you realise somebody decided every part of them. Once you know what a building used to be, why a road bends, who lived there before you, an ordinary walk becomes a record of choices and changes. The place itself has not altered. Your attention has, and it is hard to be bored somewhere you can read.
Look up the history of one street you use regularly, or ask the oldest person you know what used to be there. One fact is enough to start with. Then see how long you can walk past without thinking of it.
Whose history is under the street you walk every day?
