A subject you hated in ninth grade might click at twenty with a better reason to care.

Interest depends on timing and context as much as on the subject itself. A topic taught at fourteen with no reason to care can turn urgent at twenty when you need it for something, and nothing about the material has changed. Writing off a whole field after one bad year closes a door for reasons that will expire.

Keep a short list of the subjects you decided you hated and leave it alone for now. When one turns up inside something you care about, give it one honest hour. The problem may have been the timetable.
