People who look stuff up mid-conversation aren’t losing. They’re the only ones who leave knowing more.

Looking something up in the middle of a conversation gets treated as conceding, when it is the only move that puts a real answer on the table. Everybody else is left trading confident impressions and will leave holding exactly what they walked in with. Being wrong for five seconds is the entry fee for actually knowing.
Check the thing while it is still being argued about and read it out, including when it goes against you. Say where the answer came from. You will notice people stop guessing at you and start asking.
Do you look things up mid-argument or defend your guess?
