Look it up before you argue about it. You’ll stop defending things you heard once.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Positions get defended long after the fact underneath them has been forgotten, and most arguments are two people protecting half-remembered sources. Checking first either gives you solid ground or saves twenty minutes spent on something you absorbed once from a caption. It also lets the disagreement be about what matters rather than about who heard what.

Look it up before you commit, especially on the things you feel sure about. Say plainly when the check goes against you. Over a month you will notice how much you were repeating rather than knowing.
