The skill you learn with no grade attached is the most honest learning you’ll ever do.

Take away the mark and nothing is left to perform for. You cannot bluff a skateboard or a sourdough or a language you are speaking to a real person; it either works or it does not, and nobody is grading the effort. That feedback is harsher and far more useful, because it reports on the thing itself rather than your presentation of it.
Give one unassessed skill a real hour this week: a tool, an instrument, a sport, a craft. Notice how you decide whether you are improving when no mark exists. That instinct is worth building, because most learning after school runs without a report card.
