History isn’t just dates. It’s people deciding things under pressure without knowing how it ends. Like you.

Hindsight makes the past look inevitable. Every figure in a textbook was actually standing in an ordinary morning with partial information, tired, under pressure, guessing. The dates are only the record of where those guesses landed. Reading it that way makes the people recognisable, and it makes your own uncertainty look less like a personal failing.
Next time you study an event, stop at the moment before the decision and ask what the person knew then. Work out what you would have done with only that. The habit makes history easier to remember, and it is gentler on you about your own undecided choices.
Which decision are you making without knowing the ending?
