You’ll remember the teacher who believed you could figure it out. Be that for someone younger.

Being treated as capable does something that praise does not. A teacher who waits, who hands you a harder problem rather than the answer, is telling you something about what you can handle, and the message outlasts everything on the syllabus. Most people can name one. Very few can name what was on the test that term.

Think about who did that for you, and consider telling them. Then look for the chance to be on the other side: a younger sibling, a kid on your team, somebody new on your shift. Let them struggle a little longer than feels comfortable and say you think they will get there.
