Pick up a hobby you’re terrible at. Being a beginner on purpose keeps you humble and keeps you learning.

CREATIVITY
Competence is comfortable, and the longer you stay inside the areas where you have it, the stranger being bad at something starts to feel. Choosing to be a beginner keeps the muscle working: the tolerance for looking foolish, the willingness to be corrected, the memory of how long things actually take. It also makes you kinder to anyone who is new at something you can already do.
Take up one thing you have no talent for and no ambitions in. Climbing, chess, pottery, a language, a cheap secondhand instrument. Keep it unserious and keep going for a month, with nobody to impress.
Which hobby would you take up knowing you would stay bad?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
