A number under a post records who happened to be awake, what the feed decided to show, and whether the thing was easy to tap. It is noisy data about one object you made, on one afternoon. Treating it as a reading on your worth gives a system that does not know you a vote on how you feel.

Decide before you post what would make it worth posting, and judge it by that. If a number is going to set your mood, hide the count or put the phone down for an hour. Notice which friends actually responded, because that is the real signal.
