Most fish need a hiding spot in the tank. People need a place to retreat too. That’s not weakness. That’s design.

Needing somewhere to go is built in, not a flaw in your wiring. Any creature kept in full view all the time gets worn down, and a place to be unobserved is a condition for functioning rather than a luxury. The urge to disappear for an hour after a loud day is equipment doing its job.

Work out where your version of that is and defend it. A room, a walk, a corner of the library, the long way home. Then take it without explaining yourself.
