Being the fifth-best singer in choir still makes the song. Most things need more than stars.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
A performance is a sum, not a showcase. The sound that fills a room is produced by everyone in it, and remove enough of the people nobody will mention and it collapses. Ranking exists and does not describe contribution. You can be a long way down a list and still be load-bearing.
Find out what your actual job is in whatever group you are in, then do that part well rather than auditioning for a different one. Being reliable in the fifth chair gets you asked back. The roster changes more often than anyone expects.
Where does your unremarkable part hold something whole together?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
