Some of the people you’ll admire most got that way by going through something you’d never wish on anyone.

Depth in a person often has a cost behind it that you would not want anyone to pay. The steadiness you notice, the way they are good in a crisis: some of that was built in circumstances nobody would choose. It does not make the circumstances good.

You might ask someone you admire what they have been through rather than only how they do it. Listen without making it a lesson about yourself. If you are in a hard stretch now, nothing here asks you to find a use for it.
